The Czech edition (1983) of Jiří Levý’s Umění překladu served as a primary source text for the English version – The Art of Translation –, authored by Academic Slavist, writer and literary translation studies researcher Patrick John Corness, who translates into English from Czech, German, Polish, Russian and Ukrainian. The translation student chooses to translate part of the section on translation aesthetics, in greater detail, the chapters on translator’s literary creativity and fidelity in reproduction, respectively entirely and partially, from English into Italian, since she lacks a knowledge of Czech language, but demonstrates a profound interest for Czech structuralist aesthetics.
