Back Cover TextWhat happens when a young Newfoundland fisherman emigrates to the U.S., marries into a prominent New Bedford fishing family and then wins a national lottery worth nine figures?Victor and Fabulia Janes decide that they're going to try and do right by their newfound wealth. They both realize that a life of leisure is not in their game plan, so they take a double gamble. Victor builds a prototype factory trawler equipped to fish in thousands of feet of water for Royal Red Shrimp, which has never been attempted before. Fabulia starts a non-profit organization aiming to help children and the elderly but ends up focusing on battered women. After a few hiccups both projects get rolling. Vic starts catching shrimp but also catches a by-product of manganese nodules. The Vietnamese portion of his crew is elated with these nodules because most of them contain shark teeth at their core. The Nguori Viet start hoarding the nodules against Victor's orders. At the same time Fabulia's project gets started, but only after her doubts about the "Giving Business" get resolved. All goes along splendidly until a multi-national mining corporation gets wind of the manganese. Then life gets squirrelly for everyone within the Janes sphere. In their favor, Vic and Fabi have a gifted lawyer that helps them navigate through the quagmire that ensues...Clark Snow has spent a good portion of the last 50 years on the saltwater. The most memorable of those years were spent on fishing boats that kept he and his family in food but also fed his imagination. He currently lives in Rhode Island with his family and is looking forward to another 30 years on the water.Cover Art: Galen Snow of GVS ArtPhoto: Nelson Brace Photography
