“Remember that this is sickness term,” Miss Wilson said forebodingly. Miss Annersley, co-Head of the combined school proper and finishing branch with Miss Wilson, glanced up from the sheet of paper over which she had been frowning. “Why the gloom, Nell? Do you feel it in your bones that we’re due for one epidemic after another this term? Not,” she added candidly, “that I pay the slightest notice to any of your prophecies.” Miss Wilson shrugged her shoulders. “Trust you to be downright crushing! All I was pointing out was that when we do get epidemics, it’s nearly always in the Easter term. I can’t see why I should be jumped on in such a wholesale manner for such a mild observation.” She decided to change the subject. “Hilda, why are you scowling like that at the letter you have? Who’s written about what?”
