Critias

This unfinished dialogue continues the account of the legendary conflict between ancient Athens and the mighty island empire of Atlantis. It describes the geography, architecture, and eventual moral decline of the Atlantean civilization, which angered the gods. The text serves as a political allegory, contrasting the ideal state with an imperial power corrupted by wealth and ambition. Though incomplete, it is the primary source for the myth of the lost continent.
