Madame Bovary

Madame Bovary is Flaubert's novel that takes place in the North of France, near the provincial city of Rouen in Normandy. Charles Bovary is a shy and awkward young man from a good family that manages to marry the beautiful and attractive. Emma sees their married life boring and monotonous and she falls in love with the Leon, a young law student who shares his appreciation for literature and music. The whole novel is focused on the events of this elegant and refined woman. She despises husband Charles and tries to hide the passion toward Leon. It is a novel of passion, transgression against common morality.
