The Camoeracensis Acrotism (Translated)

This edition includes:• New English translation• Critical introductionWhen a public disputation in Paris was cut short by violent opposition, Giordano Bruno refused to let the argument die. He rebuilt it as a book—and the book keeps arguing. Across eighty articles and their supporting reasons, Bruno takes aim at Aristotle’s physics and cosmology and lays out a rival vision: a universe without centre or edge, countless worlds, a moving earth, space that makes motion possible, time as duration, and a nature animated by its own life. Letters, an oration in his defence, a catalogue of theses, and arguments that range from a sentence to several pages make this less a calm treatise than a live intellectual contest—sharp, provocative, and built to make readers question what they thought they knew. This literary translation is made to be read today: natural, vivid English that follows the movement of Bruno’s thought and keeps faith with his substance, his voice, his tone, and his images. It lets the philosopher of the infinite speak directly to the present reader, with all the force of his challenge to authority and his defence of the freedom to philosophise.A critical introduction opens the volume, before Bruno’s own text, giving you a clear way into the theses and their stakes.Add it to your library and let a suspended disputation resume in your reading.
