Author Meredith Nicholson (1866-1947) was a best-selling author from Indiana, U.S., a politician, and a diplomat. His career began as a reporter for newspapers in Indianapolis from 1884 to 1897. He later wrote several books, including bestsellers: “The House of a Thousand Candles” (1906), “The Port of Missing Men” (1907), and “A Hoosier Chronicle” (1912). In 1928 he began a career in politics, first as a city councilman and later as a diplomat in South America, appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
